Lauren D. Green (formerly Lauren Zehyoue) has been a communicator, host, and public speaker for as long as she can remember. With a background in political campaigns and mission based non profits, she has done messaging and communications for some of the highest ranked Democrats in politics at all levels of government.
Born and raised in Mesquite, TX Lauren showed an early interest in public speaking by hosting events, participating in speech and debate competitions, and and advocating with the Mesquite Boys and Girls Club. She also was a DJ on local station KEOM 88.5 FM from 2008-2010. After high school, Lauren went on to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she was an active member on the mock trial team, a member of the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity, and held various internships across the city. After graduating from Spelman with a B.A. in Political Science, she went on to attend American University to pursue a M.A. in Political Communications. While in graduate school, Lauren interned with the Department of Justice office of Public Affairs and NPR's Policy and Government Affairs Department. Her capstone Master's project titled Visibility Matters: The Impact of the Parasocial Relationship Between President Obama and Black Millennials Has on the 2016 Election was a documentary and essay on how millennials who came to political awareness under the Obama administration felt about the president leaving office. After graduation, Lauren immediately began working as a Media Monitor for Correct the Record, a rapid response digital 501(c)4 created to combat misinformation about then Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.
After the catastrophe of the 2016 election, Lauren immediately went right back to work becoming Communications Director for the Justin Fairfax for Lieutenant Governor campaign where she created and executed messaging strategy with an emphasis on press and social media. After a successful bid for lieutenant governor, she served as Communications Director for the Aruna Miller for Congress campaign in Maryland's 6th district. When that race finished, she returned to Virginia as Communications Director for For Our Future Virginia, a labor and environmental advocacy group. While there, she helped Virginia Democrats gain a supermajority in the state legislature, and successfully led the communications efforts for a statewide $15/hr. minimum wage.
Once she finished her time at For Our Future, Lauren briefly relocated to Atlanta, GA to work with Fair Count, an organization founded by Stacey Abrams to help hard-to-count communities be counted in the 2020 Census. While at Fair Count, the COVID-19 global pandemic took the world by storm. In shifting programming online, Lauren developed new skills of hosting online events, producing online programming and creating social media campaigns to target different audiences. In September 2020, Lauren launched Unbossed, Unbothered and Unfiltered, a podcast web series about national progressive politics with an emphasis on what is happening in marginalized communities.
